Conductors:
The triplex wire has conductors made of aluminum. Aluminum is used since it is lighter than copper and can still transmit large amounts of current within a short period. This property makes it easy to carry the triplex aluminum wire on overhead poles during installation. There are two aluminum conductors in the cable, with an aluminum alloy placed parallel to each other. The bare aluminum alloy is placed in the outer position of the cable. They are bound together by the use of a lashing wire. The aluminum alloy acts as the neutral wire.

Conductors used in the triplex wire belong to class A, B or SIW and are compressed at 1350-H19. They are resistant to corrosion, abrasion, weather and the effects of tension between the poles. Lastly the conductors can transmit a maximum voltage of 600 volts.

Insulation:
Triplex aluminum wire has extruded cross-linked polyethylene insulation. The insulation is sturdy which makes it less susceptible to physical or chemical damage. Another amazing feature of the insulation is that, it is lead free which can cause damage if exposed to the cable. It is also environment friendly and non-biodegradable therefore it is less likely to rot even after long periods of use. The insulation is also resistant to sunlight, weather, abrasion, impact, moisture and acids. Maximum operating temperature for the insulation is set at 900C in both wet and dry environments.
