This cable is among the various types of type P single conductor cable. It is commonly used in marine applications as a power cable. Marine applications now days require tough cables that can transmit power with minimal complications. This is where type P cables come in handy. The have a unique design that can improve your marine applications. This cable is categorized in to various sizes whereby it is categorized in to AWG sizes, which is predominantly used in North America in naming cables. On this post I will shade some light on type P cables mostly Type P MOR Polyrad cable.

Construction
This cable has a unique design whereby it is comprised of a conductor, insulator, armor and a sheath. The conductor is made from soft annealed stranded copper and is 1 AWG in size. The stranding makes the conductor more flexible and easy to transport. Covering the conductor is the insulator; it is a vital part in the cable since it prevents contact with the live wire. The insulator is made of Irradiated Cross-linked Polyolefin (XLPO) which is relatively robust and is meant for heavy duty applications.

It has an armor that protects the cable from mechanical impact. The cable armor is constructed from bronze braid. The outer sheath is added on top of the armor to reinforce the cable against mechanical damage. It is constructed from Cross-linked Chlorinated Polyethylene (XL-CPE).

Features
It has some amazing features that boost its performance in marine applications. These features include;

1.Stranding which enhances its flexibility during installation and termination
2.High resistance to mud that is common in marine environments
3.High temperature rating at 1250C

Industrial Ratings and Approvals
Products are tested and approved by international standards to ensure they are genuine and safe to use. This cable has the following industrial ratings and approvals;

1.UL listed
2.Mud oil-resistant
3.IEEE Type P
4.IEC
5.CSA

Applications
It’s mainly used in marine applications, not exceeding 2000 volts. Other applications include;

1.Offshore oil and gas drilling platforms
2.MODUs, ships and FPSOs
3.Land-based oil and gas drilling rigs
