Photovoltaic power systems are better known as solar power systems, employing solar panels to convert sunlight into electricity, and a solar inverter to transform the electric current from DC to AC. Copper photovoltaic wires are single-conductor cables that come with a variety of options to best suit their intended application.

Copper photovoltaic wires are available in bare copper or tinned copper for a conductor with boosted conductive properties that will not oxidize. The conductors are available in Class B or Class C stranded copper that align with ASTM standards ASTM B8 for concentric-lay-stranded conductors and B33 for annealed copper conductors.

The conductors are insulated in one to two layers of insulation. Insulation options include crosslinked polyethylene (XLPE) and ethylene propylene rubber (EPR). Copper photovoltaic wire is approved for direct burial for interconnection wiring of grounded and ungrounded photovoltaic power systems as described in Section 690.31(A) and other applicable parts of the National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA 70.
