4/3 ASD-VFD Tray Cable

4/3 ASD-VFD tray cable is a special cable designed for use in equipment that includes a variable frequency drive that is connected to an AC motor. These cables are manufactured according to a number of different guidelines:

  • UL Standard 1277
  • IEEE 383
  • ICEA T-29-520
  • IEEE 1202 / CSA FT-4
  • All applicable National Electrical Codes

These cables are also rated for CT use and for direct burial and are RoHS compliant.

Description:

3 conductors, stranded, insulated with heat and moisture resistant cross-linked polyethylene, phase identified, cabled together with suitable fillers and 3 symmetrical bare copper ground conductors. Cable core covered with 5-mil helical copper tape shield, and overall flame and sunlight resistant black PVC jacket. Surface printed. Jacket available in colors.

Features:

  • Suitable for use in NEC Hazardous Locations: Class I - Div 2, Class II - Div 2, and Class III, Div 1 and 2.
  • For use in ASD / VFD applications.
  • Standards: UL 1277
  • Flame Rated: IEEE 383 (70,000 BTU), ICEA T-29-520 (210,000 BTU) on 1/0 and larger IEEE 1202 / CSA FT-4 Two-hour Firewall rated, (2/0 AWG and smaller)Sunlight Resistant, for CT Use; Direct Burial Oil Resistant II
  • JacketCode: Black and Numbered
  • Temperature Rating: 90?C Wet / Dry ICEA S-95-658 / NEMA WC-70
  • Exposed runs rated #4 and larger 600 Volt Tray Cable RoHS Compliant.

Specifications:

All 4/3 ASD-VFD cables feature three conductors and three symmetrical bare copper ground wires. The live conductors are covered with cross-linked polyethylene insulation that is phase identified. It has a nominal thickness of 45 mm. All conductors, both live and ground, are bundled together along with fillers and then covered with a protective copper tape shield. This shield is then covered with a 80 mils thick jacket that provides extra protection from flames and from direct sunlight. The jacket comes in a standard black, but other colors can be requested to make identification easier.

The maximum voltage for this cable is 600 volts. Its allowable ampacity is 95 amps at 30 degrees C.

Applications:

The 4/3 ASD-VFD tray cable is primarily used in electro-mechanical drive systems to connect an AC motor to a variable frequency drive (VFD). By changing the voltage periodically and adjusting the motor input frequency, these drives are able to adjust the speed of the motor and the torque. This conserves power and also improves the overall performance of the motor. Such motors are often found in water pumps, conveyor motors, fan motors, and more.

All ASD-VFD cables can be buried and used in wet and dry environments as long as the conductor’s operating temperature doesn’t exceed 90 degrees C. They may be used in the following NEC Hazardous Locations:

  • Class I, Division 2
  • Class II, Division 2
  • Class III, Division 1
  • Class III, Division 2
