Interlocked Armor UL Type MC Copper XHHW-2

Product Description:

This cable utilizes uncoated soft copper conductors that align with specifications set forth by the American Society of Testing and Materials standard B-3, B-8 for compressed stranded conductors, and B-496 for compact stranded conductors.  The conductors are insulated with a cross-linked polyethylene rubber that adds mechanical strength to the cable and protects the conductors from corrosion.  Among the assembly of conductors is an uninsulated bare stranded copper grounding wire.  The grounding wire keeps the cable grounded for steady conductivity over the life of the cable.  Fillers and binder tape are included as necessary to keep the assembly firmly in place.  The assembly of conductors is encased in an aluminum interlocked armor that is also available in galvanized steel.  The external armor keeps the conductors safe from being jarred or interfered with by outside objects.  The armor is coated with a black polyvinyl chloride jacket that serves as a sunlight, flame, and moisture-resistant outer skin.  The interlocked armor system on this cable makes it a great economical alternative to wire installed in conduit systems.

Applications:

The Interlocked Armor UL Type MC Copper XHHW-2 cable is intended for use in branch circuits, power distribution systems, and feeders.  It can be safely installed in exposed or concealed areas in wet or dry locations.  The cable is safe for direct burial applications and it can be embedded in concrete.  It may also be installed in cable trays troughs, metal racks, or supports.  When installing with supports, supports should be spaced no more than 6 feet apart.  This cable is deemed safe for use in hazardous locations as specified by NEC.  The cable offers excellent impact and crush resistance and its flexibility allows it to be easily re-routed.

Specifications:

  • In accordance with specifications set forth by Underwriter Laboratories, a compliance and regulations organization, this cable aligns with UL standard 1569; a standard that measures the abilities of Type MC metal-clad cables.
  • This cable passes the vertical tray flame test requirements of IEEE 383-1974 and 1202-1991.
  • The cable passes ICEA T-29-520 standard, passing 210,000 BTU/hr flame test.

Construction:

-                Conductors

  • The conductive components in this cable are uncoated soft copper conductors.
  • The copper conductors align with specifications set forth by the American Society of Testing and Materials standard B-3, B-8 for compressed stranded conductors, and B-496 for compact stranded conductors.

-                Insulation

  • The conductors are insulated with a cross-linked polyethylene rubber that adds mechanical strength to the cable and protects the conductors from corrosion.

-                Grounding Conductor

  • The assembly includes a bare stranded copper ground conductor.
  • The ground conductor keeps the phase conductors transmitting steadily over the life of the cable.

-                Assembly

  • Suitable fillers and binder tape are used to ensure that the assembly of conductors sits firmly in place inside the exterior armor.

-                Armor

  • The conductors are encased by an interlocked aluminum armor that is also available in galvanized steel.
  • The external armor keeps the conductors safe from being jarred or interfered with by outside objects.

-                Jacket

  • The armor is coated with a  polyvinyl chloride jacket that is flame, sunlight, and moisture resistant.
