PowrServ OH Triplex Al Cond. XLPE Insulation Parallel Sec. Cable Type PLAC
The triplex PLAC is a good pick for overhead cabling and over the years, it has been put to test and by all standards it has proven to be equal to the task. Overhead cabling requires a cable made of materials which can withstand the tension between the poles, corrosion and abrasion. This cable has special attributes that makes it the ideal conductor for use in overhead power lines. In this post, I will share with you the unique features of the cable, read on.
Construction of the cable
The triplex PLAC is made of two aluminum electrodes both covered with lead-free extruded Polyethylene which is cross-linked and has a bare aluminum alloyed electrode lying parallel to each other. This bare electrode is in the outer position of this cable, and the cable is bound together using a lashing wire. The aluminum electrodes used in making this cable are of class A, B or SIW compacted at 1350-H19 aluminum. The polyethylene insulator is black in color.
Features of PLAC
This cable is made of aluminum. A cable made with aluminum is lighter compared to that made of copper. This makes it easy to be carried high up on to the overhead poles. Aluminum is also malleable so it can easily fold which makes the cable very easy to handle. The bare aluminum electrode also serves as a neutral support. The cable has a black extruded polyethylene insulation which is cross-linked and lead-free, that is tough enough to withstand abrasion, cutting, tearing and corrosive chemicals in the atmosphere. The insulation material is also non-biodegradable hence increasing the cable’s lifespan of quality service.
Moreover, the cable has a lashing wire that has beveled edges covered with a high density polyethylene. The cable has a rating of 600vso it can transmit high voltage power of up to 600Volts, as long as the temperatures are below 90 degrees Celsius.
