Construction 
Communication Cables like other conductors are electrical cables the only difference is that they transmit signals instead of power. Normally, the communication cable conductor is made of a number of copper strands braided together into a helical wounds. The individual conductor strands are made of annealed copper wire.

Copper is mainly used because it generally resists corrosion brought about by moisture, humidity and chemicals among other environmental influences. However, any corrosion oxides, chlorides, and sulfides that occasionally form on copper are somewhat conductive. The annealed copper conductor is surrounded by an insulating layer which is then concentrically surrounded by a tubular conducting shield then by an outer jacket. However, the jacket selection mainly depends on the type of communication cable and the area of application.

Features of the Communication Cable 
The features of the cable makes it relevant to its intended function of smoothly and safely relaying data signals. The copper conductors in the cable naturally provides excellent resistance to corrosion, they are also easy to terminate and withholds excellent electrical properties. Generally, a typical communication cable contains a fully annealed solid or stranded tinned copper as a conductor and a PVC as a jacket. The shield is mainly aluminum and color-coded polyethylene as the insulator.

Types

1.Shielded multi-conductor communication cable (spiral shield) 
The conducted is fully annealed stranded tinned copper and a premium grade, color-coded PVC as the insulator. The shield is 85% spiral tinned copper and PVC, gray jacket.

2.Shielded multi-conductor communication cable-braided shield control cable 
It has a tinned copper as the conductor and a PVC for insulation purposes. A Tinned Copper Braid acts as a shield. There is also presence of a PVC jacket. Braid shield control cable may be used in electronic circuits that require RF shielding. Radio transmitters, sound systems, and recording studios are also common braid shield control cable applications. It also has a good flexibility.

3.Unshielded multi-conductor rubber communication cable 
The conductor is mainly a 20 AWG fully annealed stranded tinned copper per ASTM B-33 and a premium grade color coded rubber for insulation. It contains a rubber jacket. Its main areas of application is Control circuits and fire alarm control.

4.Unshielded multi-conductor communication cable (stranded) 
It has a fully annealed stranded tinned copper per ASTM B-33 as a conductor and a premium grade color-coded PVC as the insulator and a gray PVC as a jacket. Areas of application are remote control circuit and public address systems.

Applications
