The Basic Components of High Temperature Nickel-Plated Copper Wires

Nickel plated wires are primarily used for stranded conductors intended for high temperature environments. Thenickel-plated high temperature lead wires are ideal for high performance electric cable and are used in various industries including telecommunication, computer, defense, airframe, aerospace, and electronics sector. In addition, the nickel-plated wires are used for high temperature fuses, spark ignition leads, and cables. The wires can resist temperature running up to 750 degrees Celsius. On top of that, they are resistant to oxidation, corrosion, and are easily welded. The Radix Wire TemperGard FZ101 High Temperature Lead Wire 250C and 400C 600V is one of those copper cables coated with nickel. The thermal performance of the cable makes it ideal for use in areas where high temperatures pose the risk of damage to other coated copper wires.

The uses of the TemperGard FZ101 High Temperature Lead Wire
This cable is used in operations that use voltages of up to 600 volts. It is ideal for applications where high temperatures are a consideration. These wires may be used in equipments such as stoves, dishwashers, ovens, and cooking ranges. They can also be used in heat-treating furnaces, cartridge heaters, band heaters, ceramic and glass kilns, as well as steam boilers. The reason why these types of cables perform well in high temperature environments is because they are coated with nickel and their protective jacketing and insulation are designed to endure harsh environments of extreme heat, flame, and moisture.

The basic components of high temperature lead wires
Generally, high temperature conductor wires consist of five components, which include the conductor, insulation, braid, jacket, and shield cover. In each construction, different components may be used. In simpler constructions, you may only have the conductor and an extruded insulator. The purpose of using insulation on the copper strands is to allow for electrical insulation. The insulation may be extruded over the wire or it may be applied in form of a wrapped tape.

For high temperature applications, the materials selected for use as primary insulators are mica, plastics, and synthetic rubbers because they tend to have good dielectric properties and heat resistance. In situations where the applications are deemed severe, a secondary insulation may be used to help protect against tearing, cutting, and other mechanical forces.

The primary insulation should be able to contain and channel the voltages while secondary insulation should protect the primary insulation as well as the conductor against effects of physical or mechanical damage. Jacketing, braiding, and outer layers are designed to provide additional mechanical protection.

The Radix Wire TemperGard FZ101 High Temperature Lead Wire 250C and 400C 600V consists of an insulation made of mica, TFE tapes, and PTFE fluid and moisture barrier. The insulation protects the cable against extreme temperatures, electricity, light, moisture, flame, and heat.

A jacketing material made using braided fiberglass and a high temperature finish is applied on the wire for enhanced protection. The insulation, shielding, and jacketing ensure the wire performs excellent when used for extended periods of time in environments that witness high temperatures. Also, the protective layers prevent damage of the cable by oil and abrasion.
