Type G and Type G-GC Cable

Type G and Type G-GC cable is a wire primarily used in mining and other similar industries. It is a perfect cord for light and medium duty uses. All the same, it is also used for heavy duty power supply. The type G and type G-GC cable is also a great cable for portable and mobile electrical equipment. The cable with 3 or 4 conductors is often used in AC three-phase wiring systems that require grounding.

This portable cable is abrasion resistant and does not get easily worn out by impact. This is why it is an ideal cable for mining and other industries where falls and scratching are common. The cord has high resistance to heat, oil, moisture, acids, most chemicals and alkalis. Its core is bound to increase toughness and flexibility. It is indent printed to make its identification easy. In addition, its rubber fillers are non-wicking.

Type G and Type G-GC cable’s conductor is made up of strands of bare copper that have been fully annealed. It has an ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) insulation and its jacket is black and it is designed using chlorinated polyethylene (CPE). The cable is round and can withstand operating temperatures as low as -40°C and as high as 90°C in both dry and wet environments and has a voltage rating of 2000 Volts.

The Type G and Type G-GC cable has been approved by the Underwriters Laboratories (UL). It also passes the standards set by the Canadian Standards Association. Furthermore, the cable is Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) acceptable and Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) compliant. It also passes both the UL-1581 section 1160 Vertical Tray Flame Test and the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) flame test P-122-MSHA.

What Are Type G and Type G-GC Cable?
Type G and Type G-GC cables are popular cable types with multiple applications. The Type G mining cord is a bare copper wire with insulation and jacket protective layers. The cable is protected with chlorinated polyethylene (CPE) rubber jacket that provides easy identification for the Type G cable. MSHA approved and RoHS compliant, the cable is rated to 2000 volts and manufactured with annealed copper conductors.

How Are Type G and Type G-GC Cable Applied?
They can be used in heavy-duty service as power supply cable, power cable for mobile and portable electrical equipment at a continuous conductor temperature of 90° C. Type G and Type G-GC cables are also used in light to medium duty mining applications.
