ACSS/AW – Aluminum Conductor Steel Supported/ AW Core

Product Description:

This conductor is used primarily as an overhead transmission line in high temperature scenarios.  Its ability to function at full ampacity under temperatures up to 250°C make this product a preferred cable for intense and hazardous environments.  The aluminum-clad steel core of this product gives it an advantage over the standard ACSS conductor, providing greater resistance to corrosion and higher ampacity.  The steel supported cable also provides economic benefits because of its rigid construction.  The reduced sag in this cable makes it possible to cover long distances using less cable.   It is also able to retain its rigidness when handling emergency loads, while other cables show significant sagging under these conditions.

Specifications:

In accordance with specifications set for the by the American Society for Testing and Materials:

  • This product contains aluminum 1350 round wire for electrical conductivity.
  • The aluminum contents used for electrical purposes are classified as B-609 aluminum material and are annealed for extra strength.
  • The steel core is clad with B-502 aluminum for resistance to corrosion and increased conductivity.
