Anaconda® Brand Type G and Type G-GC

For a cost-effective, resilient solution for light to medium-duty mining tasks, Anaconda® Brand Type G and Type G-GC is one of the industry’s most popular cables. Anaconda® Brand Type G-GC is a mining cable that offers exceptional flexibility and resistance to corrosion due to oil, water, chemical solvents, and ozone. It is a crush resistant cable, built with an optional flattened design to minimize damage from impact by heavy objects. With a carrying capacity of up to 2,000 volts, this cable is capable of handling voltages high enough to power most industrial and mining equipment. Cranes, mechanical shovels, and top-feeders are some examples of mining machinery that are commonly powered by Type G and Type G-GC cables.

Type G cables are two-conductor cables that include a neutral ground conductor. The cable uses coated, rope-lay-stranded, annealed copper wires that align with ASTM B172. The annealed copper product used in this cable offers superior flexibility compared to standard copper, but offers the same powerful conductive properties. The annealed copper phase conductors and the neutral ground conductor are insulated with ethylene propylene rubber (EPR); a synthetic rubber that is resistant to sunlight, moisture, and oil.

Anaconda® Brand Type G-GC cables are multi-conductor cables that include a neutral ground conductor. The cable gets most of its strength from its extra heavy-duty exterior jacket. The CPE jacket is a layer of lead-cured, chlorinated polyethylene. This material is resistant to oils, chemicals, high or low temperatures, and weather. CPE jacketed cables are also flame retardant and have great tensile strength. The jacket helps with the cable’s overall resistance to crushing, abrasion, and cut-through.

Type G-GC cables offer an additional ground-check cable, which is what sets it apart from Type G cable. The ground-check cable is a fail-safe that ensures the cable and equipment are properly grounded before and during use. In most ground-check cables, the cable will cease to function if the ground-check is damaged. To ensure that the ground cable stays in tact, the ground-check conductor is wrapped in aramid yarn as an added protective member.

Type G & Type G-CGC cables are available in a flattened construction, designed for maximum protection from crushing and impact. This option is recommended for most applications in the mining industry because there tends to be a high degree of impact, which will inevitably shorten a cable’s lifespan if it is not built to take the abuse. Anaconda® Brand Type G and Type G-GC’s flattened design however, can absorb physical impact day in and day out and show little to no damage. This is due in part to the D-shaped insulation, which is made to fit snugly inside the jacket and will not shift under stress.

The cable gets most of its strength from its extra heavy-duty exterior jacket. The CPE jacket is a layer of lead-cured, chlorinated polyethylene. This material is a widely popular thermoplastic product that is resistant to oils, chemicals, high or low temperatures, and weather. CPE jacketed cables are also flame retardant and have great tensile strength. The jacket helps with the cable’s overall resistance to crushing, abrasion, and cut-through.

Type G and G-GC cable can be used for heavy-duty tasks such as power supply cable, power cable for portable and mobile electric equipment, motors, and industrial appliances. Anaconda® Brand Type G and G-GC holds a temperature rating of -40°C to 90°C. The cable is primarily used in light to medium-duty mining applications because of its durable yet flexible construction. The cable can also be used in construction zones or locations with a high chance of vehicle run-over. The cable passes FT-5 flame test and aligns with UL 1650, deeming the cable suitable for use in locations with an increased risk of fire. Type G-GC cable can be used in shipping and marine structures.

In accordance with specifications set forth by the American Society of Testing and Materials, a compliance and regulations organization established over 100 years ago, the cable aligns with ASTM standard B172, a standard for rope-lay-stranded conductors. The cable also aligns with Underwriters Laboratories standard UL 1650, a standard that requires portable power cords to align with National Electric Code, NFPA 70. The cable meets FT-5 flame test, a UL vertical flame test of 1,700 BTU. The cable is approved by the Mining Safety and Health Administration and is compliant with Restrictions of Hazardous Substances.

Type G and Type G-GC, along with other Anaconda® Brand cables, are highly recommended cables when it comes to mining tasks. The mining industry is a tough and unforgiving business. That is why it requires the most resilient and durable equipment. Trust Anaconda® Brand Type G and Type G-GC for your next mining project and see why it is the most popular cable in the industry.
