Instrumentation Cable and PLTC is designed to deliver clean signals in harsh environments while minimizing noise and signal interference. Both types of cables are approved for use in Class I and Class II hazardous locations. The cables in this category consist of insulated conductors that are resistant to sunlight, moisture, and vapors as well as low-smoke zero-halogen cables.

Instrumentation cables are a cost-effective alternative to conduit as there is no need for pull boxes. Instrumentation cable is commonly used for control applications in pulp and paper, petrochemical and other process industries. However, instrumentation cable is used in a broad range of applications, specifically where cable is subjected to corrosive elements or mechanical damage. The cables can be used in direct burial applications or can be strung aerially with support from a messenger wire. Instrumentation cable is employed when minimal noise and interference is required. The cable is available in individually shielded pairs or triads with an overall shield plus the option of aluminum or steel interlocked armor.

PLTC stands for Power-Limited Tray Cable. These cables are similar to instrumentation cables in regards to the fact that they offer great weather resistance and are impervious to moisture and sunlight and are generally used for the same applications requiring less voltage. They are approved for use in hazardous locations and pass multiple UL flame tests. PLTC is typically approved for voltages not exceeding 300V. Common applications for PLTC are burglar alarms, petrochemical refineries, intercom systems, industrial control systems, cash registers, power limited circuits, and other cable tray installations.
