Description:
Type UF-B cable is an underground feeder power cable that has a ground wire and two or three phase conductors. The conductors have a tough insulation that can counter the excess moisture and high heat available underground. The conductors are available in stranded and solid types. The solid conductors are excellent for grounding because they have very little surface area- exposure.

Type UF-B cable has a maximum ampacity of 600V. This is for operation in both wet and cold locations. It can operate in environments with temperatures not exceeding +90°C.

Applications:
For all the indoor or outdoor applications, industrial or commercial applications, the working temperature of Type UF-B cable should not exceed 90OC and an ampacity of 600V. Functions in both indoor and outdoor applications.
• Direct burial applications
• Underground distribution
• Used for wiring in branch circuits; for indoor agricultural and residential buildings
• Power distribution from inside to the outside of s building. i.e. outdoor lamps and pumps.

Conductor:
• Soft annealed copper conductor; has optimum stability and conductivity
• Type THWN-2 or THHN conductors
• Comes in; two or three phase conductors
• A single ground wire; solid copper wire

Insulation:
• Individual conductor insulation with, Polyvinyl-Chloride, PVC
• The PVC is lead free, moisture resistant and always dry
• Color-coded individual insulation for easy identification

Jacketing:
• Individual conductor jacketing; gray PVC armor
• Overall cable jacketing with PVC armor
• The PVC has high dryness, moisture free and moisture resistant.
• Resistance to fungus and UV rays

Stranding:
Available in two types of stranding;
• Compressed stranding;
• Solid wire design
• Compressed design – recommended tasks requiring high flexibility.
• Solid copper design – highly corrosive outdoor environments; it has a low surface area exposure. Is also cost effective.

Features:
• Excellent resistance from fungi and insect bites
• Resistant to water and moisture
• Lead-free
• Resistance to sunlight, UV
• Functions in wet and dry environments
• 600v ampacity
• Maximum of +90°C working temperature

Specifications:
• Meets the standard 83 of UL
• Standard 493 of the UL
• NEC compliant
• ANSFI/NFPA
• A-A-59544 Federal Specification.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • Underground electrical wire code?

If the National Electric Code (NEC) requirements are to go by, the required burial depth of a conductor in conduit should be at least 18”.

  • UF b wire definition?

UF-B means Underground Feeder and Branch wiring cable. It has an added protection that allows for underground burial with no additional raceway, tray, or conduit. UF-B cables come as a two or three conductor cable which consists of the phase conductors and ground wire.

  • How do I strip a UF wire appropriately?

Underground Feeder cable is one of the most difficult cables to strip. The reason is because you can’t easily tell where the jacket ends and where the insulation begins. However, stripping gets easy with time when you learn the trick to do it without cutting the conductor. Even with a sharp knife it’s still a tall order so the best way would be to use a pliers.

Using a pliers, slit down the center of the and carefully pull out the grounding wire using the pair of pliers. Then, you will easily pull the conductors out. You have to be careful with the whole process.

  • UF cable in conduit

Underground Feeder cables can be run through a conduit. The conduit normally descends into the ground from the source of current and runs underground then ascends at the point of application in a building where it feeds the building with power through a conduit elbow.

  • What is UF b wire?

UF-B means Underground Feeder and Branch wiring cable. It has an added protection that allows for underground burial with no additional raceway, tray, or conduit. Generally the UF-B cable is used as a feeder and its cost is slightly higher compared to other cables; closest substitutes like the NMB and MC cables. UF-B cables come as a two or three conductor cable which consists of the phase conductors and ground wire.
