The Copper Tray Cable

Different cables are made of different metals for different purposes. On this post I will share with you about the Copper Tray Cable , what it’s made of, how it’s made and where it can be used. This cable is made of copper and appears in a set of two wires compacted together. It is constructed with a soft galvanized class B copper. The galvanized annealed copper undertakes the process of slowly cooling after the metal has been heated, releasing internal stress within the copper metal to form a flexible electrode. This cable is designed for installations in raceway, cable trays and in conduits. It can also be used for outdoor applications. 

The copper metal used to make the tray cable is a stranded bare and class B as per the UL 62. It is insulated with an extruded polyvinyl chloride and a nylon jacket, which has a thickness of 0.004 inches intended for Type TFFN per UL 66 and the Type THHN/THWN per UL 83 insulation is also done with the extruded PVC alongside the nylon jacket with a thickness of 0.004 inches, whereas the type 10AWG is 0.005 inches thick. The materials used in making the type TC tray cable is tested with the following standards;

  • The NEC article 336
  • The UL subject 1277
  • The passes IEEE 383 flame test and
  • The UL 1277 type TC-Extended Run (ER).

The conductor is cabled with filler to make round compacted core.
