An IMSA Cable

1. What You Need To Know About IMSA Cables

The influx of populations in urban areas has put a lot of pressure on the few resources available in the urban areas, like land. There’s hardly any more space for further installations and developments. Sometimes the roads in our cities get congested to the extent that walking or driving smoothly is a problem. For this reason traffic signal gadgets are instilled on roads to ensure that there is smooth movements of pedestrians and vehicles. Movement in our roads should be as safe as possible, that’s why we use traffic signals to help in lowering the accident rate by maintaining order of movement of people and vehicles on the road. The traffic signals are made of IMSA Cables.

The IMSA is a traffic signal cable that supplies electric power to the roadway signaling gadget. This cable should meet the standards of International Municipal Signal Association alongside having the correct numbers which are unique and easy to identify. As far as safety is concerned the IMSA cable installation requires a strict guideline as it used in controlling many lives of people on the road. This cable also perfect protective attributes that helps it withstand the harsh environmental conditions involved in the installation.

How it works
The IMSA cable also known as traffic signal cable, feeds from a traffic light to the controlling station where coding is done thus making the lights to change.

Features of IMSA cable
A traffic signaling gadget should deliver quality performance all the time. It therefore needs special attributes to help it achieve the purpose for which it is made.

The cable has an insulation coating, which is made of polyvinyl chloride. The polyvinyl chloride is a plastic and cannot decompose thus the cable cannot rot when laid underground. The insulation provided also keeps the cable from harsh environmental conditions like crushing, strong sunlight rays, wear and tear and other mechanical damage factors common in the construction sites.

Types of IMSA Cables available at Nassau Electrical are

1.IMSA 19-1 signal cable; - This cable has a 600 voltage rating preferred for traffic and fire signals. It is either installed
   aerially or in duct system.

2.IMSA 50-2 lead in cable; -Has 600V rating used in loop detector Lead-In Feeder and installed in duct system or buried in
   soil.

3.IMSA 51-7 XHHW Loop Detector; -Also has 600V rating with a cross-linked polyethylene insulation. It is installed in the
   duct system or buried.

Applications of IMSA cable
The IMSA cable is made to provide high resistance to moisture and the extreme weathering. It is primarily intended for outside installation alongside the underground duct system, aerial and straight earth burial. This cable can also be a good option for control and communication cable for industrial and further users.

IMSA cable can be applied in making fire protection signal. Fire is a very disastrous in case of its occurrence in our residential areas or companies and institutions. For this reason the IMSA cable is used in making an alarming signal that notifies the public to take safety measures.

The IMSA cable is durable enough and provides quality results when used.
