Tray Cable VNTC, VFD, Festoon what are they and where are they used?

The tray cable VNTC, VFD and festoon are a wide range of industrial power cables or multi-conductor control cable rated at 600 volts and are suited for use in cable trays, racetracks, conduits and outdoor use in applications where a messenger wire is supported. They are also used in industrial applications to power AC motors since they offer better control than DC drives and still improving the motor’s efficiency. 1.HW152 Tray Cable - Shielded Control Cable 600 Volt UL Type TC-ER* TFN Insulation PVC Jacket Copper Conductor
This type of control cable is mainly for use in applications not exceeding 600 volts hence it’s mainly used for medium duty applications where maximum flexibility and durability is required. This cable is also used in applications where shielding from ambient electrical interference is required in power, control and lighting circuits in both commercial and industrial applications.

It also functions in a wide range temperatures. It is rated 90 degrees Celsius for dry locations, this is quite evident that the cable is reliable in hot and dry application areas. The cable is also designed to resist external forces that may bring damage to it including abrasion, sunlight, flames and oils.

When it comes to its construction, it has a conductor, insulation, insulation jacket, shield and a jacket. In accordance to its name the cable is made up of annealed copper conductor which is mostly used due to its amazing electrical properties. For the insulation PVC is used due to its robustness. On top of the insulation nylon is put in place to be the insulation jacket. To prevent electrical interference an overall aluminum shield is placed in the cable. It’s very much similar to the previous cable in terms of type of conductor used, insulation, insulation jacket, and shield and cable jacket. The application areas are also quite similar.

3.PVC Flat Festoon Cable
As usual when it comes to its construction, copper is mainly used as the conductor. When it comes to the PVC Festoon cable an extra flexible stranding of soft uncoated copper is used. This enhances the flexibility of the cable since it can easily bend without causing any damage to the cable. When a cable has a conductor it is very essential for an insulator to be present. In this case a PVC material is used as an insulator. The PVC material used is flame retardant, sunlight and oil resistant this enhances the durability of the cable.

The cable’s jacket is also made from a PVC material which is also flame and oil resistant and is available in both yellow and black so it just depends with your preferences. It operates in a wide range of temperatures; the operational temperature range is between -40 degrees Celsius to 105 degrees Celsius. However they are not advisable for use in situations where a lot of impact and flexing is present below -10 degrees Celsius, for this situation you will require neoprene festoon cables. Furthermore an aluminum Mylar shield is used to prevent external interferences from affecting the normal functioning of the cable. 5.VNTC Type TC Tray Cable 600V

The conductors are made from stranded uncoated copper, type THWN or THHN, or XHHW for surface print phase identification. A cable tape is also present and PVC jacket covers the cable with its surface printed.

6.Low Voltage Tray Cable
Just as their name would infer, these cables carry low voltage in terms of electrical energy. They are also used in conduits, ducts, raceways and direct burial. PLTC Tray Cable
PLTC generally stands for Power-Limited Tray Cable. They are designed low duty applications since they carry voltage not exceeding 300 volts. They depict excellent weather resistant properties which ensure durability of the cable. The most common application areas of this cable is in burglar alarms, petrochemical refineries, intercom systems, industrial control systems and many other cable tray installations. Though it’s not a safety and security cables but it still functions very well in burglar alarms systems.

Its conductor is made of annealed copper but tinned copper is also available upon request. Covering the copper conductor is a PVC insulator which prevents direct contact with the live wire by the user. They are cabled together in pairs with staggered lays. It has an aluminum Mylar tape as a shield with a 100% coverage and flexible stranded tinned copper drain wire. The jacket is black in color and designed to be flame resistant, it’s made of PVC material. A rip cord is inserted under the cable’s jacket to allow for easy stripping of the jacket. Can be used in intercom, alarm circuits, cable tray, race ways and conduits.


2.Type TC-ER - Instrumentation Tray Cable Shielded Pairs
Copper is used as the conductor while PVC is used as the insulation. There is a conductor jacket which prevents any damage being caused to the conductor which is made of nylon. The cable pairs are cabled with staggered lays and wrapped around with a foil free edge aluminum Mylar tape with a flexible tinned copper drain wire. The jacket is also made from PVC which has rip cords inserted under it to allow easy jacket removal.

1.Deca Cables Multi Conductor Cross linked Polyethylene 600 Volt Tray Cable
The conductor is class B concentric copper while the insulator is of cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) material. The jacket is made of PVC. This cable is rated at 600 volts and can work properly in temperatures as low as -40 degrees Celsius. It’s available in many colors it just depends with the customer’s preferences. In addition to that both shielded and braided options are readily available.


2.Deca Cables Multi Conductor Cross linked Polyethylene CSA 1000 Volt Tray Cable 
It’s very similar to the previous cable the main difference comes in the voltage whereby this cable is rated at 1000 volts.

3.Deca Cables Multi Pairs/Triads 300V CSA Tray Instrumentation Cable
This cable has a low voltage rating of 300 volts. Its unique attributes from other tray cables is that it has two shields both made of aluminum Mylar but one has a multi-pair drain wire while the other has only one. It also comes in various colors for the jacket upon request

Tray Cable TC-ER
This type of cable is approved for use in both dry and wet locations. It bears a special feature called “Exposed Run” (ER) Rating making the cable suitable for use in open wiring that is not installed in tray, conduit, or other raceways. They can be able to make exposed runs up to 50 feet. They are commonly used in applications where long runs are made between trays or from electrical devices.

This cable has a flat construction and is rated at 600 volts. It’s made of a copper conductor. The type of material used for the insulation is flame retardant with is XLPE material. On top of the insulation is the insulation jacket which is made up of nylon. There is a separator that separates the insulation jacket and the outer jacket and is made from Mylar. The jacket is a flame resistant PVC material.

2.TYPE TC-ER - CONTROL & POWER TRAY CABLE Shielded XLPE Insulation with Overall PVC Jacket 600 Volts 90°C Wet/Dry 
Soft annealed copper is put in place as the conductor; the conductors are assembled with fillers in the core as needed. Aluminum Mylar with tinned copper drain wire is used as the shield. The jacket is made of PVC which has rip cords inserted under it for easy jacket removal.

VFD Cable
As hinted earlier they are meant for Variable frequency drive applications. They are available in two types that is CIR type and the standard VFD power cable gexol insulated with three conductors made of copper. They can be used in powering AC motors in many industries.

It has three copper conductors and three ground conductors. They are both made up of soft annealed flexible stranded copper conductors.
