HW 290 Listed CIR® Power Cable Three & Four Conductor + Ground 0.6/1kV 90°C Gexol® Insulation

Product Description:

A cousin to the multi-conductor HW 290 Listed CIR® Power Cable, the three and four-conductor version of this cable offers the same crush and impact resistant durability in extreme conditions.  The cable’s exceptional flexibility makes it a preferred product to Type MC when maneuverability is required.  The tinned copper phase and ground conductors are individually insulated with Gexol® polyolefin to shield the conductors from corrosion.  The assembly is encased in a black thermoset outer jacket that serves as protection against sunlight, oil, abrasion, and high heat.

Applications:

This cable is preferred in arctic conditions as it is able to withstand temperatures as low as -75°C.  On the contrary, the cable can handle high temperatures up to 90°C.  Underwriters Laboratories deems this cable safe for use in hazardous locations per UL standard 1277 and 2225.  The cable is often used on marine vessels and offshore drilling rigs as it’s durable insulation and outer jacket combat the corrosive effects of conditions at sea.  The flexible, crush and impact construction of the cable also prove beneficial for the abuse it may take at sea.  Installation within cable tray is suggested for this product, but it can be exposed and still function safely.

Specifications:

  • In accordance with specifications set forth by Underwriters Laboratories, this product meets or exceeds standard 1277 and 2225.  These standards require the conductors to meet necessary criteria so they can be approved for use in hazardous locations.
  • This cable is rated TC-ER by Underwriters Laboratories.  This classification deems the cable safe for installation in cable tray as well as without cable tray.
  • This cable is rated TC-ER-HL by Underwriters Laboratories.  In accordance with 336.10(7) and 505.15(B)(1)(i) and as permitted in 501.10(A)(2) of the NEC, the cable is safe for use in exposed runs between utilization equipment and a cable tray.  It can also be used where the cable is protected against physical damage using channel, struts, or angles.

Construction:

  • Conductors

-                This product employs tinned copper conductors.  Copper is the one of the strongest conductive metals on Earth, second only to silver.  The conductors are soft annealed and are very flexible.

  • Ground conductor

-                The ground conductor supports the phase conductors to ensure steady conductivity for the life of the cable.  The ground wire is flexible stranded, soft annealed, and wears the same insulation as the phase conductors.

  • Insulation

-                Each individual conductor is coated in a Gexol® cross-linked polyolefin insulation.  The insulation is a durable material that protects the conductors from fire and other hazardous elements.

  • Jacket

-                The outer jacket is a flame retardant, black, thermoset material.  The outer jacket serves as the first line of defense against chemical and sunlight damage as well as corrosion caused by water vapors, oil, and abrasion.
