    Product Details

    Shield Wire is used in overhead ground wire, shielding transmission lines from lightning and other sources of electromagnetic interference and physical damage. It is used by power utility companies and wire and optical cable manufacturers.

    Shield Wire is composed of hard-drawn steel conductor cores covered with a thick coating of pure aluminum that comprises at least 10% of the wire radius, and is concentric-lay-stranded. The aluminum is bonded to the steel core with a continuous ductile weld that won't separate, flake, or crack. Its steel core comprises the majority of the cable for excellent tensile strength equivalent to or greater than other types of shield wires. This allows for greater span lengths, reduced sagging, and increased durability under heavy loads during harsh weather conditions. Aluminum cladding provides corrosion resistance that is superior to that of galvanized steel, reducing maintenance and replacement costs and resulting in a longer-lasting cable. Aluminum-clad steel is also more conductive than galvanized steel and has excellent thermal stability when exposed to high temperatures. In addition, aluminum is much lighter than steel, so cladding significantly reduces the weight of the cable. This makes installation easier, places less strain on support structures, and lowers overall costs.
