    Product Details

The Aluminum Conductor Steel Supported (ACSS) cable features conductors that give particular advantages to certain transmission line applications, including the capacity to work constantly at temperatures up to 250°C with proper steel center covering (versus 100°C for standard ACSR) without loss of strength. This cable delivers significantly higher current carrying capacity than same-sized ACSR, and lessens sag taking into account lower transmission tower height. This cable is utilized as a part of overhead distribution and transmission line application.

These advantages make ACSS particularly valuable in reconductoring applications requiring expanded current with existing tensions and clearances, new line applications where structures can be managed as a result of reduced conductor sag, new line applications requiring high emergency loadings, and lines where aeolian vibration is an issue

    Product Highlights:

    • ACSS is a composite concentric-lay stranded conductor.
    • Steel strands make up the core of the wire with a minimum of two layers of aluminum 1350-O wire around it.
    • The steel core carries the vast majority of the mechanical load due to the temper.
    • Steel core is available in Standard, High, Extra High, and Ultra High strengths
    • Steel core wires are protected from corrosion by a zinc-5% aluminum-mischmetal alloy coating.
    • Available with an optional low reflectivity ‘non-specular’ finish

    Technical Standards:

B-500              zinc-coated (galvanized), zinc-aluminum-mischmetal alloy-coated, and aluminum-coated (aluminized) stranded steel wire core inserted for use in aluminum conductors, steel reinforced (ACSR).

B-609              annealed and intermediate tempered round aluminum wires suitable for electrical purposes like stranding into conductors or for solid single conductors, either bare or insulated.

B-802              round, zinc-aluminum mischmetal (Zn-5Al-MM) alloy-coated, steel core wire with three classes of this coating used for mechanical reinforcement in the manufacture of aluminum conductors, steel reinforced.

B-803              round, high strength, zinc–5 % aluminum-mischmetal (Zn5AlMM) alloy-coated, steel core wire with one class of Zn–5Al–MM coating (MA3) for use in overhead electrical conductors.

B-856              round wire concentric-lay-stranded aluminium conductors, steel supported (ACSS) for use as overhead electrical conductors.

    B-958              round, extra-high-strength, and ultra-high-strength, Class A coated zinc–5 % aluminum-mischmetal (Zn–5Al–MM) alloy-coated, steel core wire for use in Overhead Electrical Conductors.
