Description:
Aluminum SER cable is a service entrance wire specifically designed for harsh environments. They transmit power to the power meter from a service box. They also offer connection between a power distribution board and a meter base. The aluminum service entrance cable can be installed in above ground or underground power supply applications. However it is more recommended for above ground applications because of its flame retardant capabilities.

Aluminum service wire can operate in extreme temperatures of up to 900C in both wet and dry conditions. It has a maximum voltage rating of 600 volts. With these properties the ser cable can effectively transmit power from a transformer into a residential building. Furthermore it has a bare ground wire which emits excess current to the ground which reduces the risks of fire in residential properties.

Product details:
• Flame retardant
• It is compatible with 2 or 3 phase power transmission applications
• Aluminum alloy conductor
• It is an environment friendly cable
• Temperature rating of 90°C
• Heat and sunlight resistant jacket
• Meets the recommended industrial standards
• XHHW-2 conductors
• Incorporated with a grounding wire
• Moisture resistant
• Flexible cable
• Available in various AWG sizes
• Has a reinforcement tape

Insulation:
The insulation of the ser cable is made of cross-linked polyethylene. This material protects the conductor from external damage. It is resistant to heat, sunlight, abrasion and impact.

Jacketing:
Aluminum service entrance cable is enclosed with a PVC jacket. The jacket protects the cable from the adverse effects of heat and sunlight. Nonetheless it also protects the cable from chemical damage.

Applications:
• Above ground service entrance applications
• Used in circuit panel boards as feeders
• Power distribution applications from the service drop down

Industrial Approvals:
• Federal specifications
• 44 for XHHW-2 conductors
• Flame retardant
• National Electric code (NEC)

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • What is the ampacity of 6-6-6-6 Al SER Cable?

6-6-6-6 Aluminum SER Cable has an allowable ampacity of 60 amperes. It can distribute 60 amperes at temperatures not exceeding 90°C.

  • Can I use Al SER Cable in a wall between meter box and panel without conduit?

    Yes, you can.

  • Does 2-2-2-4 Aluminum SER Cable suit 40’ away subpanel from the mains supply?

Aluminum 2-2-2-4 Service Entrance Cable will effectively transmit power from mains supply to the subpanel 40’away. However, the power from the mains has to be stepped down first so it can’t be connected directly to the mains but via a step down transformer.

  • What wire to use between 200 amps electrical panel and a meter box, which type; SER or SEU?

Any service entrance cable will work for meter box or panel, whether SER or SEU. On the amps; you need a power cable of at least 200 amperes current carrying capacity to deploy in your 200 Amps wiring system. There are lots of 200Amps power cables however, 2-0 Copper Cable and 4-0 Aluminum Cable should be considered for your power line. This is because they have high current carrying capacity and will conveniently distribute 200 amperes without overheating.

  • Is there a #2 copper wire in 4/0-4/0-4/0 Aluminum SER Cable?

No. Aluminum 4/0-4/0-4/0 Service Entrance Cable conductor is made of type soft 8000 series of aluminum. Its grounding conductor is also designed with aluminum. Conventionally this cable is purely aluminum made and not copper.

  • Can 1-1-1-3 Aluminum Service Entrance Cable use conduits in underground transmission?

1-1-1-3 Al SER Cable needs protection when installed through underground transmission method. For this reason, conduits can be used to route this cable as they offer additional protection from harsh environmental conditions.

Electrical conduits are tubes or pipes used to channel and protect electrical wiring. These conduits are made of plastics, metals, fired clay or fiber. Conduits can be stiff and rigid or flexible. Flexible conduit system is normally desired for electrical wiring.

  • Can 2/3 Aluminum SER transmit 100 amperes?

No, it cannot. 2-2-2 Aluminum SER Cable has a small carrying capacity of 75 amperes at an operating temperature of up to 90 0 C. This means that it is not suitable for connecting current lines with 100 amperes. Because it would exceed the carrying capacity of the cable leading to overheating and blows. Instead, use AL SER cables with high current capacity like; 2-2-2-4 Aluminum SER Cable, 1/0-1/0-1/0-2 Aluminum SER Cable.

  • Why is the ground 3/0 shouldn’t it be #4 AL?

Aluminum Service Entrance Cable has one grounding conductor. However, AL SER is made of three or four aluminum conductors; and one grounding wire. A grounding wire is very important in power cables since it neutralizes the cable from electron build ups.
