Type P Cable

Type P Cable is a broad category of electric transmission cables that are designed and engineered for applications in harsh offshore petroleum and drilling applications. Its physical and chemical structure support this type of environment that involves a lot of vibration and physical torture to the cable. These cables also withstand the high temperatures and the corrosive agents in the working environment.

Applications:
Type P Cable is designed for applications in offshore and onshore drilling environments that to be harsh marshy and punishing, during application, the cable tends to be exposed to; a lot of vibration, corrosion from salt, mechanical stress, drilling mad, extreme hot and cold temperatures. This cable is chemical and physically designed to handle such environmental conditions.

What are the Types of the Type P-Cables?
1. Type P Unarmored Power Cable
2. Type P Armored & Sheathed Power Cable
3. Type P Instrumentation Cable
4. Type P Control Cable
5. Type P Armored Power Cable

What are the key Features of the Type P?
This easy to install Type P cable has high stranded and compacted conductors that makes it very flexible and improves its resistance to vibration than many other commercial cables’
• Excellent insulation and reduced dielectric constant reduce the cable’s power losses.
• The jacket and insulator produce less corrosive and toxic gases because they are non-chlorinated.
• Has stable electrical properties due to its good moisture resistance throughout its service life.
• Suitable for use in these environments; class 1, zone 1, Division 1.
• Certified dually by UL 1309 and IEEE 1580
• High endurance and durability in cold temperatures of -40 and -35°C. this is according to CSA
• Ampacity ratings, Transport Canada 95°C, LRS 95°C, ABS 100°C and DNV 95°C

Conductors:
Type P cables are fitted with a tin-plated copper conductor. The conductor is flexible, annealed and stranded as per the Table 11 of the IEEE 1580 specifications.

Insulation:
To keep the conductor safe, a cross-linked Polyolefin insulation material is used. This insulator is an excellent flame-retardant material that can withstand the working environments of the P cables. The insulator meets the standards of CSA C22.2 No. 245, UL 1309 Type X110 and IEEE 1580. The insulators come in different sizes and with different color-codes.

Jacket:
• This harsh environment requires a tough jacket that can counter the marshy and tough conditions that include constant vigorous vibrations. The jacket is made of a black thermoset compound that is constructed to meet the standards of the UL 1309, CSA C222.2 and 1EEE 1580.
• This arctic grade jacket has outstanding properties like; resistance to oil, chemical, sunlight and high flame retardance.

Armor:
Some Type P cables have a wire armor that is basket weave. Upon request, a tinned copper of Bronze standard can be availed.

Type P Cable Compliances:
• United States Coast Guard
• DNV - Det Norske Veritas
• ABS - American Bureau of Shipping
• Marine Shipboard Cable, as listed by UL
• Lloyd’s Register of Shipping
• CSA listed
