2/3 ASD-VFD Tray Cable

One cable that may be used in different ASD / VFD motors is the 2/3 ASD-VFD tray cable. These tray cables are rated to withstand flames and other environmental hazards. These cables comply with the following regulations:

  • All required National Electrical Code guidelines
  • UL Standard 1277
  • IEEE 383
  • ICEA T-29-520
  • IEEE 1202 / CSA FT-4
  • All applicable RoHS regulations (cables are RoHS compliant)

Description:

3 conductors, stranded, insulated with heat and moisture resistant cross-linked polyethylene, phase identified, cabled together with suitable fillers and 3 symmetrical bare copper ground conductors. Cable core covered with 5-mil helical copper tape shield, and overall flame and sunlight resistant black PVC jacket. Surface printed. Jacket available in colors.

Features:

  • Suitable for use in NEC Hazardous Locations: Class I - Div 2, Class II - Div 2, and Class III, Div 1 and 2.
  • For use in ASD / VFD applications.
  • Standards: UL 1277
  • Flame Rated: IEEE 383 (70,000 BTU), ICEA T-29-520 (210,000 BTU) on 1/0 and larger IEEE 1202 / CSA FT-4 Two-hour Firewall rated, (2/0 AWG and smaller)Sunlight Resistant, for CT Use; Direct Burial Oil Resistant II

  • Temperature Rating: 90?C Wet / Dry ICEA S-95-658 / NEMA WC-70
  • Exposed runs rated #4 and larger 600 Volt Tray Cable RoHS Compliant.

Specifications:

These cables make use of three conductors. In the 2/3 cable, these conductors have a stranding of 7 Al/Stl and a size of 2 AWG. They are secured with a cross-linked polyethylene that protects them from damage from heat and moisture. The conductors are then bundled with three symmetrical bare copper grounds and covered with a 5-mil helical copper tape shield. Then the entire cable is jacketed with a sunlight and fire resistant 80 mils thick jacket. Overall, the complete cable has a diameter of .998 inches.

The total allowable ampacity of this cable is 130 amps at 30 degrees C. It has been rated for 600 volts.

Applications:

The 2/3 ASD-VFD tray cables are designed to work with variable frequency drives (VFD) and AC motors. They are used in a number of different types of electro-mechanical drive systems in order to adjust the speed of the drive and the torque. The VFD does this by changing the motor input frequency and the amount of voltage being send through the 2/3 ASD-VFD cable. By changing the speed, the performance of the motor is improved, plus it uses less power overall.

These types of motors are found in a number of different pieces of equipment, including water pumps, conveyors, and fan motors. They may be found in indoor or outdoor locations and can be used in dry and wet environments. They are rated for use in NEC Hazardous Locations, including Class I, Div 2, Class II, Div 2, and Class III, Div 1 and 2. Regardless of where it’s used, the conductor operating temperature should not exceed 90 degrees.

When buying a cable, you just do not need to go for anything on the shelves. What you need is quality and affordable cable. One that will be able to give you value for your money at all times. Therefore just as mentioned a standard VFD cable is all you need.
