A soft annealed tinned copper wire made for military use. The copper cable is coated with tin to reduce its ability to corrode and oxidize in high temperature environments. Using tin to coat the copper enhances the thermal performance of the conductor. Tin coating improves workability of the conductor because it can be soldered easily. This tinned copper wire has about 98 percent conductivity and it works in voltage applications ranging between 600 and 2000 volts and temperatures of up to 125 degrees Celsius.

    Applications
    • Used environments that use up to 2000 volts and temperatures reaching 125 degrees Celsius and where low smoke emissions are desired.
    • This wire is used in tunnels and subways systems in marine applications.

    Insulation
    • Low smoke silicone rubber
    • An insulation made of low smoke silicone rubber protects the conductor. Silicone rubber is an extremely heat resistant material. It is also flame retardant and it may be used in application with temperatures reaching as high as 180 degrees Celsius. The moderately abrasion resistant material is considered highly flexible. It has a long storage life as well as good bonding properties. A low smoke silicone rubber means that it releases little smoke if exposed to flame or fire. This property offered an added advantage of safety in use of the wire. A tape made of opaque polyester is used to act as a separator over the wire conductor.

    Jacketing
    • LSNH cross-linked polyolefin (XLPO)
    • A low smoke, non-halogen cross-linked polyolefin is used as a jacketing material for the conductor. This material is flame retardant, oil resistant, and UV resistant. It does not release noxious fumes that could harm to people. Its low smoke property means that it does not release too much smoke that may prevent rescue operations if a break breaks out. Low smoke also means the cable is safer for use in military applications.
