All DLO cables, including 646 MCM DLO Diesel Locomotive Cables, are manufactured to be versatile, durable cables that can be used in a variety of applications above and below ground and in both dry and wet areas. These cables are all manufactured in accordance with ICEA S-75-381: Portable and Power Feeder Cables for Use in Mines and Similar Locations.

This cable is listed as the following:

  • Type RHH-RHW-2 as per UL 44
  • Type RW90 kV as per C22.2 No 3895

It is Low Smoke Rated per LS-UL and has met or exceeded flame tests VW-1 and FT-4. It’s also MSHA accepted as per P-7K-123040 and is RoHS compliant.

Specifications:

The 646 MCM DLO Cable uses a special insulation that makes it flame and heat resistant and moisture resistant. It also resists acids, alkalies, and oils plus is durable enough to prevent ripping and tearing when pulled over abrasive terrain. It has a nominal insulation thickness of 0.110 inches. The stranding (Al/Stl) is 1600/24. The cable has a diameter complete cable (O.D.) of 1.45 inches and an allowable ampacity of 815 amps. When bundled into 1,000 foot, the cable weighs about 2560 pounds.

Applications:

This cable has a number of different applications and uses. Its primary use is to supply power to the traction motor of a diesel-engine locomotive, but it can be used in railroad care wiring as well. The cable is rated for use in Telcom power supplies and motor leads, arc welder supply leads, and electric earth-moving machinery. It may also be found in a variety of applications in shipyards since it can be used in damp areas without any adverse effects.

The cable can be used in ducts, conduits, trays, and troughs. Under normal operations, it has a maximum continuous conductor temperature of 90 degrees.

DLO is especially suitable to supply power to traction motors of diesel-electric locomotives. It is also recommended as a portable cable for drilling rigs, on-shore or off-shore, railroad and transit car wiring, electric earth-moving equipment, in shipyard applications, arc welder supply leads, power and control jumper cable, Telcom power supply and motor leads. The cable is suitable for use in wet or dry areas, conduit, ducts, troughs or trays, and where superior electrical properties are desired. The maximum continuous conductor temperature for normal operation in wet or dry locations is 90°C. DLO resists oils, acids, alkalies, heat, flame, and has abrasion resistance.

Conductor:
This cable has a single copper conductor that is fully annealed and tin plated. Its construction is in accordance to ASTM B-33 and AAR 598 standards. This fully annealed conductor exhibits very high flexibility and is easy to handle. This cable still remains flexible during application in the extreme high temperatures.
