Product Details

XLP USE-2 RHH RHW-2 Copper Wire

Product Description:

This product employs a single copper conductor that is jacketed in a polyethylene insulation.  The polyethylene jacket is a cross-linked insulation that enhances the lifespan of the cable by providing a flexible yet durable armor that protects the conductive components from high heat, moisture, abrasion, and chemicals that may corrode the copper.  Copper cables offer many benefits over their aluminum competitors; they have extremely powerful conductive properties and retain their stability for a longer time than aluminum.  The construction of XLP/USE-2, RHH, and RHW-2 copper wires offer an optimal combination of electrical and mechanical strength.

Applications:

This cable is most commonly used within an electrical raceway such as conduit.  Conduit is a tube or trough that channels the cable and further protects it from obstacles and abrasion.  Conduit can be made of metal or plastic, the best option depending on the task at hand. RHH cable is most suitable for dry locations such as desert regions and should not be used in temperatures over 90°C.  RHW-2 and USE-2 are suitable for both wet and dry locations and can tolerate temperatures up to 90°C.  Type USE-2 conductors can be used for direct burial for service entrance cable.

Specifications:

  • In accordance with specifications set forth by Underwriters Laboratories (UL), RHH and RHHW-2 meet with UL Standard 44, which sets the specifications for thermoset insulated conductors.  This standard requires the insulated conductors can functions under high temperatures and can handle 600 volts of ampacity.
  • The USE-2 conforms to a similar UL Standard 854 setting temperature and ampacity specifications for underground service entrance (USE) cables.
  • In accordance with specifications set by the American Society for Testing and Materials, concentric lay stranded and unilay stranded copper conductors meet standards B8 and 787 19.
  • These copper conductors meet Federal Specification A-A-59544 deeming them suitable for use in commercial or industrial buildings.

Constructions:

  • Conductors

-           These cables are made with annealed soft copper.  Copper is an extremely powerful conductor and has proven its stability over time.

  • Insulation

-           Conductors are insulated with a black cross-linked sunlight resistant insulation.  The insulation protects the conductors against excessive heat, dryness, moisture, and abrasion.
