10/31 THHN Shielded Tray Cable

Product Details

The THHN Tray Cable Shielded Type TC is a multi-conductor cable that employs fully annealed stranded bare copper conductors.  The Class B, annealed copper product used in this cable offers superior flexibility compared to standard copper.  The copper is heated and slowly cooled to remove internal stress which makes the metal more malleable, but does not compromise any of the copper’s powerful conductive properties.  The conductors are individually insulated in polyvinyl chloride (PVC).  The insulated conductors are color coded for identification, and the insulation helps to protect them from sunlight, moisture, oil, and chemicals.  Suitable fillers are included in the assembly to ensure the conductors fit snugly within the jacket.  An aluminum tape with synthetic backing is helically applied over the conductors to create a conductor shield.  The shield serves to prevent leakage and electrical shock.   A tinned copper drain wire is also included in the assembly which acts as a ground wire to terminate the shield.  A black, flame-retardant, lead-free PVC jacket makes up the external layer of the cable.

Applications:

This cable is most often installed in trays, ducts, conduit, and wireways, but the cable is also approved to make exposed runs in free air when properly supported by messenger wire.  The cable is also approved for direct burial applications.  With its flame-retardant PVC jacket, the cable is approved for use in hazardous locations per NEC.  The cable also offers excellent resistance to oil and can therefore be used in drilling rigs or refineries.

Specifications:

-                In accordance with specifications set forth by Underwriters Laboratories, a compliance and regulations organization established over 100 years ago, this cable aligns with UL 1277, a standard for insulated conductors.

-                The cable meets standard UL 66, which sets expectations for fixture wire.

-                The cable aligns with UL 83, a standard that sets requirements for thermoset insulated conductors.

-                Copper components of the cable align with ASTM standard B3.

-                The cable meets ICEA specifications set forth in articles S-73-532 and S-95-658.

Construction:

-                Conductors

  • The cable features fully annealed stranded bare copper conductors.
  • The Class B, annealed copper product used in this cable offers superior flexibility compared to standard copper.
  • The copper is heated and slowly cooled to remove internal stress which makes the metal more malleable, but does not compromise any of the copper’s powerful conductive properties.

-                Insulation

  • The conductors are individually insulated in polyvinyl chloride (PVC).
  • The insulated conductors are color coded for identification.
  • The insulated conductors are THHN approved.

-                Shield

  • The conductor shield is an aluminum tape with synthetic backing that is helically applied over the conductors.
  • The shield serves to prevent leakage and electrical shock.

-                Assembly

  • The assembly includes suitable fillers to ensure the conductors fit snugly within the jacket.
  • A tinned copper drain wire is also included in the assembly which acts as a ground wire to terminate the shield.

-                Jacket

  • A black, flame-retardant, lead-free PVC jacket makes up the external layer of the cable.
  • The jacket acts as the first line of defense against abrasion and corrosion due to moisture, oil, chemicals, flame, and sunlight.
  • The exterior jacket is designed to release zero halogens when exposed to flame.
