SHIELD WIRE - 19/9

SHIELD WIRE - 19/9

Shield Wire

Product Description:

This product consists of concentric-lay-stranded conductors.  The conductors are made of aluminum-clad steel wires.  The shield wire is a ground conductor that is used as a reference point for the voltage of an overhead transmission line.  The wire acts as a shield to protect primary lines from being affected by lightning, EMI, precipitation, and corrosive gasses.  A primarily steel structure makes this product extremely strong and durable.  The steel is clad with aluminum to resist corrosion.

Applications:

This conductor is commonly used for overhead shielding of transmission lines in areas where high corrosion is likely, such as coastal regions or at sea. This cable is commonly employed to shield communication lines as well.  The metal layer wraps around the primary conductors to protect against outside electromagnetic interference.

Specifications:

In accordance with specifications set forth by the American Society for Testing and Materials:

  • This product meets with ASTM standard B416 for aluminum-clad steel hard drawn wire.

Construction:

  • Conductors

-        Conductors are made using high strength steel wires.  Steel wires are aluminum-clad to improve resistance to corrosion.

  • Stranding

            -           Concentrically stranded.
