ACSR/AW – Aluminum Conductor Steel Reinforced / AW Core

Product Description:

This cable offers the same long-lasting durability as the standard ACSR cable, with an annealed steal core for enhanced ultimate tensile strength.  The upgraded core also makes the conductor slightly lighter in weight and gives the product a longer service life.

Applications:

This cable is used as bare overhead transmission line and can also be used for primary and secondary distribution, carrying medium, high, and extremely high voltages. This conductor is preferred over galvanized, Misch Metal, or aluminized conductors in areas where corrosion is a factor.  ACSR/AW, as with other members of the aluminum-clad cable category, has proven its longevity in regions with bad weather as well as in coastal regions.  This cable is most commonly used for transmissions between main power station and substations.

Specifications:

In accordance with specifications set forth by The American Society for Testing and Materials:

  • The aluminum wire components, 1350-H19 are for electrical function of the conductor and meet B-230 aluminum wire standards.
  • For structural reinforcement, aluminum-clad steel core meets standard of B-502 per ASTM specifications.
  • Aluminum concentric-lay-stranded conductors are classified as B-549 aluminum conductors.

Construction:

  • Conductors

-                                  Aluminum 1350 H19 aluminum alloy encases the core and provides optimal conductivity.

  • Reinforcement

-                                  This cable is characterized by its aluminum-clad steel core, which gives it an extremely high UTS (Ultimate Tensile Strength) rating.  While the core provides strength.

  • Stranding

            -                       Concentric-lay-stranded.
